can anyone that has ever tried to rear this species please give there experience's.

we have a pair that spawns regularly and we are going to give it a shot. we collected our first larva on sunday night(about 300) to a 10g rearing tank(holding 3g). we have 2-10g rotifer tanks going. everything is set up according to J. Wilkerson's book

Hi there.

It looks like you are ready to go :) Just make sure water quality is good :)

What type of Polymnus are they?

Black variant or the Brown variant?

Best,
Ilham

there black. ive been doing some reading and it seems that no one has successfully raised any young yet, do you know if thats true? in regards to the outline in Wilkersons book, is there anything you do differently or dont do at all?

hey may be you'll be the first one that'll be able to do it dood :D ....good luck :)

thanks Gaby but if people that have way more experience raising clowns haven't been able to do it i think its a long shot that we will. we were up till 4:30am collecting larva on sunday, not something im looking forward to doing again especially if there not going to make it.

i hope i can find someone who has so i can pick there brain

spawning photos

sorry for the poor photo quality but i have a cheep camcorder/camera and i was trying to stay as far from the tank as i could

Ilham i said they were the black variant before but after some research i dont think they are, can you confirm this?

Hi there Chris and Barb.

They are not black variant of A. polymnus. I know of a large hatchery in Thailand/Malaysia/Vietnam that are producing the black variant of A. polymnus.

While yours are not the black variant, that is a great feat, nonetheless! All polymnus are tough to get breeding. They are very fidgety, and swim into a lot of things....causing popeye.

Best,
Ilham

wwouu dood the babies are getting quite big :D are you gonna be doing/making/interrupting clowns privacy  for more off springs pretty soon??

we have a few from another batch that are smaller. the last 2 hatches didnt go so well, one we collected 300 larva and the next morning they were all dead and then the next the eggs hatched a day early:confused: but we are expecting another hatch Wed. night
