I've had this coral for a few years. I grew it from a 1" frag. A month or so ago I noticed a whitish growth near the base of the coral, but made nothing of it. It's gotten pretty big now. I thought it was a sponge of some type, but it's hard and looks to be grow out from inside the coral. Any ideas?

This is near the base of the coral.

This I didn't even see till I took the pics. it's near the top left of the coral.

And here's the whole coral with the growths circled.

I have an A. nana with a similar tumor. ive been keeping an eye on ot for several months and it isnt growing so Im not going to frag it unless I have to. If your worried and its growing quickly, Id recommend giving it an iodine dip and fragging the cancerous areas.

Hello,
If the growth has occurred over the period of several months I would not be too concerned. You could clip back the growth and cover the area with superglue if the growth is rapid or speeds up. The majority of the coral looks healthy and appears to be growing well.

Regards,
Kevin

Thanks. I think I'll get out my dremel and try to grind those out and cover it with superglue. The rest of the coral looks fine and is growing well.
Any idea on an ID for the coral?

Larry
