Acrylic scratch removal kit

While aquascaping tonight a piece of rock fell and of course put a ding on the front of the acrylic tank

I have seen those acrylic scratch removal kit (has multiple grade of wet sanding paper). My question is how well does it work? I don't know if I'd mess it up further by trying to buff it and maybe I should I live with it

They work great Abissus, I use them all the time. Just start with small circles working a little larger with each paper.

You can even use them IN your fully stocked tank (just don't use the polishing liquid in there). Personally, I would only use it in my tank, if I knew I hadn't used it prior, so I knew there were no contaminates on the various grit papers (I have a kit newly purchased, just for that use). They DO require some elbow grease, but the results are well worth it.

It is such a bummer to make a ding after my year long (ok i am very slow) setting it up and it is finally getting close.

Actually, you might have better luck if you go in straight lines rather than circles. Each time you go to a finer grade of sandpaper, rub in a perpendicualr direction. It is easier to see if you have all the "scratches" from the previous grit if you are going in a different direction.

Of course, when you have as much experience as Mike, you can just look at the scratches and they will melt away.

I agree Straight lines... Atleast thats what the instructions state... Left to right one Grit.... then up and down with the Next grit always opposite of the Grit Prior to the previous..

Definately go with straight lines. Don't be shy using the coarser grit, otherwise you go through all the labor of using the different grits, and still have a scratch. You can also save a bundle by buying the MicroMesh "sandpaper" directly from Rocklin Woodworking down by SouthCenter Mall. Micromesh also has a great website, but I can't seem to find it right now.

I have tried the straight line method, and dont find it to work as well. I guess each person will have a different experence, for me the circluar method never left any lines behind.

play around with aa peice outside of the tank and practice.
