I'm getting my tank built by
SoCal Creations
They're a smaller company in Southern California, they have a decent rep on another forum and they so far have excellent communication. I'm building a small tank but they have built larger ones as well. Compared to some of the other places I looked into they have decent prices on the tank and shipping.
I'm in Hawaii where no one builds acrylic tanks, so I had to have it shipped from the mainland. So the shipping and tank price combined made a big difference to me. I figure if they can send a tank to Hawaii they can send one to Florida (or the Bahamas).
I also looked into these companies that I've also heard good things about. (If you’re looking into a custom setup)
Aquatic Systems Design
First Class Aquatics
I know
IAP makes great tanks too, and they have an impeccable rep here in the forums, really I'm not trying to bash them but when I tried to contact them through their web site they never replied, so I took my business elsewhere.
The other three companies responded to me within 24 hrs.
As for the mass produced aquariums there are these that I've found. Keep in mind that only stores and distributors can order through them.
CASCO aka Seaclear/Clarity Plus
Clear-For-Life
Another note:
Although the larger companies like seaclear produce acrylic aquariums at a cheaper price, they are also cheaper by design. They always use the thinnest possible acrylic to make producing such tanks cheaper. They are in my opinion just as "safe" to keep but will have significantly more deflection then would likely happen with a custom built one. For instance seaclear will build an acrylic aquarium up to 60 gallons with 1/4" walls my custom built 20 gallon tank has 3/8" acrylic throughout.
Custom aquariums have many options available to them too, such as drilling the bulkheads for you, unusual shapes and sizes, newer innovations such as coast to coast overflows or external ones.
For me, once I calculated the shipping into it the custom aquariums they were comparable in cost to the custom ones.
Hope this helps a little.
