is it really necessary to use the actinic bulbs or can i run just 10,000k bulbs? does coral need the actinic?

You can do fine with the 10K's , the corals won't know the difference but your eyes will.

If you're happy with the look of 10K, go for it. I think you may find it's too white. Maybe look at 14K, to get some blue.

i ask because i have very limited options for bulb color. this is over the 10gl nano, and i'm retroing the lights. i only have 20" total to work with so the bulbs have to be about 18"s and at first i thought about getting just the 10k bulbs but like you said it would be to white. i have just orderd a 10k and a actinic 460nm, thats like 50/50 right?

that should be fine. they will be healthy, just wont "pop"

10K is more white then blue, with a 15k you will see more color and it will be more blue. Its all in your preference.
