Hey guys, I was just wondering what are good and bad additives. I currently have Marc Weiss Coral Vital, is this stuff any good. I have heard some people saying that Marc Weiss products are no good and I was just wondering if that is true. Are the Kent products any good?

The reason I am asking is because I was thinking of buying another Marc Weiss product because the claims about his products seem really good on his site. Here is there site.

Any thoughts from you guys would be great.

Thanks!

You have to keep in mind that alot of products make alot of unproven claims. I dont think there is any one miracle product. The question would be do you really need it. 99% of the time the answer would be no. What are the negative effects (excess nutrients, P). The less stuff you stick in your tank the better off you will be.

I would have to agree with Don on this one. There are people who have had success with these products, but do you need them? I would concentrate on keeping your water parameters at their prime and see how the reef is then. I think you'd be suprised at how good it can be without all the supplements.

Thanks alot for replying guys. I'm going to finish up this Coral-Vital and stop using it.

I was wondering is there any site link or anything that tells the perfect everything for a reef tank like alkalinity, ph, amonia, calcium, etc?

I would love to print out a list so that I can have a reference to what they should be for my tank.

Hi Mishikal Robert gave you a good link on the parameters but make sure youvisit the library also, thier are hundreds of articles listed in thier.

On the food additives I agree with the above, its one of the biggest problems folks have in keeping good quality water. The vast majority of corals eat detritus, waste, bacteria and absorb nutrients directly through thier tissue. All of these items are in great abundance in our tanks (in most cases, to much) so adding more just increase already nutrient laidened water.

Oh and on the parameter levels remember your salinity level is key to all levels.

Good to see ya Robert.

Mike
