Alright i just got a Tunze skimmer and it seems to be pulling LOTS out of my tank. But it is really watery. Pretty transparent does not look like good skimate. How do i adjust the air flow so i get less water and more goo. Do i let more Air in or less air in. Thanks.

Hmm...Never used or seen the Tunze skimmer but if I want thicker/dry skimmate rather than really wet on my AquaC EV120, I have to lower the water level in my skimmer. My air injection stays completely open all the time as reccommended for my skimmer, but I had a problem with wet skimmate a little while back and to resolve it, I had to open my gate valve more to drop the water level. Not sure if that helps any, but hopefully someone here is familiar with the Tunze skimmer and can offer some advice. Best of luck:)

Ah... Krish beat me to this...

Sorry, I’m also not familiar with how to make adjustments on these skimmers but there must be a way to lower the water level within the contact chamber, like Krish said. I wouldn’t adjust the air flow (making it slower) if at all possible. Ultimately you want the skimmer to be full of tiny bubbles so slowing the air flow would defeat the purpose all together. If you can lower the water level, that will create more room for the concentrated foam to travel up and into the collection cup.

If you just got it, it is probably in the break in period. I would give it a week before I started doing any serious adjusting.

To add to that Charlie, it would be best to lower the water level then because if it goes crazy it might cause a flood. Better to be too low than too high...:)

After looking back at my hasty reply, I noticed that I’m kinda contradicting what I’ve learned about achieving good skimming efficiency. The only other thing I can suggest to you is to possibly read through these two threads so you can get an understanding of your own as to what you might need to do to in order to make your skimmer more efficient.

This one here
And unfortunately this one is on another site but the advice is mostly coming from someone who is also pretty well known here. Well worth reading despite its length.
