Anyone familiar with their products especially their skimmers? I'm thinking on having their sump built and just ordering their skimmer. I want to make a few mods to the sump to fit my purposes, but otherwise the system will look pretty much the same. Let me know if anyone uses it and if you had any good or bad experiences with it. Here's the site if you want to check it out: http://www.superskimmer.com/reef_devil_filtration_systems.htm

Thanks.

i hear the reef devil is absolute crap for the cost. i have the evolution 750 which is alot better, but i am no skimmer expert there are better skimmers on the market for the money considering they are a higher end skimmer, and as far as a sump goes, that is just a container to hold water.

Yeah, that seems to be the response I'm getting everywhere surfing the net. Just needed confirmation. Thanks.

Beware of the reef devil!!!! I bought a RD Deluxe about 6 months ago. The thing never really worked. It also flooded my house on two seperate occasions. I called custom aquatics to complain and they said I should send back the skimmer and pick something else out. They got the skimmer, and because I mounted it externally they said they could not resell the skimmer. No credit cause they couldn't get a credit from ETSS. IMO the skimmer is defective. I called the guys from ETSS to help me get this thing going. They are pretty much aholes. They did not help at all. I personally will never buy any of their products. They are junk and they don't stand behind them. If you are looking for a simmilar skimmer I would go with a beckett from www.myreefcreations.com. Thats my plan. I will use the RD for parts.

Boy Mungus, the MRC skimmers look really good. So far I think my choice is going to be either one of the Euroreef skimmers or the MRC MR-1 package 2 with the quick release. I've been trying to call them to get some additional info, but I can't seem to get through. Do you know off hand if you have to have a certain water level in your sump for it to operate properly? Thanks for he info.

i have a mrc mr2 and love it lots of dark skimmate .i installed it externally just raised it a bit so my output would not be affected by the rising water level in my sump when i shut off my return pump. im very happy with the skimmer and the customer service.

I talked to Andy about 2 weeks ago. I believe he told me that they could be run in water up to 7" deep. (MRC-1) If you can't get through to him leave a message. He is very good about getting back to people. Also a constant water level in the skimmer area in your sump will give you much better results.

I just tried to call them agan, but still no answer. I'll have to leave a message. Do you know off hand if they can mount externally?

Yes they can be mounted externally. If you are mounting it externally I would add a small piece of pvc to the gate valve. Then I would put a union for easy removal, and then a ball valve to shut the water off from the sump. That way you can remove it easily for cleaning ect.
