This started out as a green brown algae, now has turned purpleish/brown. Been doing weekly water changes and sucking off. Tank is a replacement for leaker, has been set up about 6 months reused LR and seeded sand, adding a Phosban 150 reactor today. Any other suggestions on treatment? Also I have some thick mat green algae about 1/4 inch thick in sump, should I remove it or leave it in the sump to use up nutrients. Also have Cheato in sump.

Thanks to All!!

Increase you flow, I think I would remove both the red stuff and the green in the sump. The stuff in the stuff will come back and by removing it you have removed the nutrients. By the way do you have much water movement in your sump? You might also bump up your pH a little.

^^^ I agree with sucking up all you can in the sump and tank. Export what you can out of your system and keep up with it and see if things balance out. May just be a small cycle your tank is going through so try eliminate any excess nutrients that could feed it...Good luck! :)

Yes I have enough movement in my sump to keep my Cheato tumbling, I just added 2 MJ 1200 to the to worst areas. Also blow off I could and filtered the return water. Added Phosban in a reactor and will do another water change tomorrow and suck out all I can. Been fighting this for a while. :'(
