Any nifty ideas on how to rid the algae that is fouling my prized Zoo's? The culprit came on the plug with the zooanthids. The undesirables didn't appear for several months but now look to be choking and not allowing full extension and multiplication of polyps.

You can lift or cut the zoa mat off the plug and glue it to another plug or your rockwork, hopefully leaving the algae behind.

I used hydrogen peroxide dips with good success. For hair algae and bryopsis.
In a separate container I used 30% HP and 70% tank water. Dips lasted about 1 minute. The frags need to be rinsed off very well. In fact it was recommended to me that each frag needs to be held in front of a powerhead for 15 - 20 seconds to make sure all traces of the HP is removed or it will keep working on the polyps, which would be a bad thing.
It may take 2-3 dips spread over a week.

Okay, should I try to cut away with a razor as much as reasonably possible prior to the dip?

agreed. And again, make sure you rinse very very well. You do NOT want any residue.

24 hours after first dip and looking good. Will wait another day or two and do it at least once more. There are a couple of 'baby' zoos on the plug so I want to be a bit careful not to over shock them.

I think great success with just one dip! The babies are flourishing... in fact I didn't know they were there until the algae dissappeared. Thank you for the great advice, mfinn!!!

Your welocome.
I got the idea from saltwaterfishes last year.
Works on several types of algaes, even byopsis.
