Am I Starving My Tank

Hello;

This is a frequent question and no one but you can answer. As you stated you tried feeding once a day and did not like the algae.

I feed 4-or more times a day. But, I do not mind algae and I personally think it looks healthy and the fish and snails eat it.

There is plenty of life in the water that is microscopic --- Plankton --- larva and other things, small algae that your filter feeders are eating. I think you are doing a good job if you are keeping the species you have mentioned alive.

The tank is almost a year older now. I still have five of ten flame scallops I started with two years ago. Things seem to be thriving so my question doesn't seem to apply any longer.

Well, I do try to answer questions for everyone as I think this was the topic.

I am happy to hear of your success --- maybe you can give us some advice on tank parameters you have now or have changed since your original question.

hey what are those soft corals doing now? i find my leather corals enjoy high flow and open alot more in good flow maybe they are not getting as much flow as they would like? juts my thoughts nice tank btw

I wish I could share any advise on tank parameters, but I only test salanity. Feedings have remained the same. I think I've blessed by the luck of the draw.Last winter during a power outage I went on a briselworm hunt. In my dark still tank I discovered the top 4" working alive with very small life. I can only give you a basic idea what they looked like. One form was a worm 1/16"long about 1/4 the dia. of a hair another looked like T with a bit of a buldge where the two lines come together and only 1/2 the length of the worm and the third I could only say looked like a spec of dust. The worm swam like a snake the other two moved in a jerking motion. I guess most stuff in my tank feeds on this stuff.

Hello;

Well, with what you and others offer we now have open to us new ways of doing things. I like to know other options. :D

Personally, I hate to vacuum my substrate -- I know there is abundant life forms in what waste I remove, and I pour it down the toilet. :mad:

The only thing I can offer is the Jaubert system has worked for me. If set up correctly and maintained it will provide about ten years of service. It has allowed me to for go much of the filtration I used in my first system. In exchange for a ten gal. water change once a week. I've been able to set the test kits aside and enjoy my tank.
