Hey guys I just got my ampmaster 3000 running, and I am a bit concerned w/ how hot it feels. It is hot enough to the point that I can barely hold my hand on it, but not so hot as I couldn't touch it. Does this sound about normal?

Thanks

If you can hold your hand on it for 3-4 seconds that sounds about normal. I found having a fan directly on the pump will cool it to the point of it just being warm to the touch rather than hot.

I was pretty concerned about mine when I had it. My Iwaki was the same, both companies said it was a normal amount of heat output.

they do get hot!! It does sound about right though. Some get hotter than others tough..

Also if they have been backed down by ball valves this will cause them to heat up a little.

Well I guess I will run a fan on it once I get a chance, thanks guys for the warm fuzzy.

Hey Tom. I replumbed mine to where it runs straight off the output to the top of the tank then splits (no turns for about 3.5 feet) and it runs much cooler now. I think any restriction out of the pump and it heats up in a hurry. These pumps are designed to run wide open without any back pressure at all.
