Although this is an SPS forum I shot this interesting photo yesterday I thought I might share anyway.
It is of my Euphyllia glabrescens budding off a daughter frag.

Hope you like it,
Kevin

So where did it drop that from? Is it just a big extra "mass" that's being expelled from one of the main stalks that got a little fatter than usual? Just trying to visualize where that thing came from!

That's pretty darn cool!

So where did it drop that from?
The bud comes from the edge of the coral where the skeleton meets the living tissue. The tissue begins to swell and droop, then with the help of gravity slowly stretches until it breaks free.

Kevin

That is cool Kevin!!!! Not to take this thread another way, but my fox coral has been doing the same thing for the last 6 months. I think it is great that we can witness this type of thing in our tanks!!!

Hi Charlie,
Thanks for the picture. The fox coral (Nemenzophyllia turbida) along with many of the other LPS (Large Polyp Stony) corals will reproduce this way.
Here is a picture of mine from Feb. 2002. I have owned this coral since 1997. It was almost was taken over by algae in 2001 before moving it to my 550 (it was down to just a couple of polyps). It took off and began budding soon after the move. To keep the green color it needs to be placed in indirect or low light. The second picture was taken May 2003.

Regards,
Kevin
