Here's my little hitch-hiker! Some kind of anemone shrimp, though I have no idea on the ID.

Cool little dude!!
Came with the anemone?

Yup, unexpectedly. The anemone was supposed to be for my maroon clown, who fondled his last one to death. Unfortunately I suppose, it's been too long now and the inbred, er, tank bred clown has forgotten what an anemone is...:p

Those are great shrimp. I think they are called Pederson's Perclemines (sp?) anemone shrimp. They are pretty hard to find on the west coast. I hope he does well for you!

BTW what are those little fishies in that picture? NICE And how big is that shrimp please?

Umm.. not sure I see the "little fishies" you're referring to...the shrimp itself is about an inch long. He's doing well so far and eating frozen mysid shrimp (what a cannibal!), as well as dodging any advances Bandit (my copperband that loves to rip things apart) makes. The anemone is doing well so far too...I generally don't have good luck with anemones ;)

Elmo I am sure your tank bred clowns are never inbred:exclaim:
No Joke.

Hehe, besides having a lower jaw that juts out farther than the upper jaw, he gets in fights with the damsels (and looses), fights with his own reflection (and looses), rams into your hand if you put it in the tank, and rams in to the magnetic algae scraper like a fish on crack if you move the scraper even a tiny bit - I'm waiting for the day he knocks himself out...but with that little brain, it may take awhile.

In any case, everyone is convinced that if one of the frogfishes was introduced to the big tank Warren (the clown, so named from "There's Something About Mary" I'm told) would be the first to go.

Guess I'll go with Periclimenes yucatanensis then :p It says that this is a cleaner shrimp? Weird...I wouldn't think cleaner shrimp would hang out in anemones to attract fish to clean *shrugs* I was certain he was eating frozen mysis shrimp...am I wrong?

And I always appreciate it when people post interesting topics to enliven my day! :D

P. yucatanicus (I used the wrong ending before) is indeed a cleaner. Living on anemones gives them protection from predators while the anemone itself serves as a conspicuous cleaning station. When ready for business the shrimp stands on the open tentacles & waits for customers.

Uh...no one gives my anemone shrimp any business :p Is he going to be alright? I do see him grab tiny bits of mysis shrimp and he definitely appears to be eating them...

They're adaptable feeders and will eat a variety of food. wetwebmedia has a lot of good information on shrimp so check over there & see what they say about supplemental feeding.
