Anemone issue

Hello all. We got a Long Tentacled anemone about a week ago. Our water is fine. He is not attaching and his mouth is open. Has been since he got into the tank. I asked the people we got it from and they said he's fine. I have looked all over the internet and can't find what his mouth being opened means, or how I can help him attach. We have dug him a hole in the substrate and placed him there but he mainly just lays on his side. I put food in his mouth and I have never seen him eat so I don't know if he's eating at night or if the clowns are eating it. He's open fully, tenticles look great and he's moving them around. He besides the open mouth and not sitting up attached looks ok. Any thoughts? Is there a way I can help him attach? Should I pull him out and take him back if he's not going to be ok? Thanks all. I would just leave him alone at this point. He has only been in the tank a week. My anemone that I have had for 6 months now was completely closed up looked afluw just this morning and now he is opening up. Some times they will show their mouth and other times they will ball up.They will stay in one place for a month and then decide that they are not happy and bouce all over the tank.

True, leaving them alone unless in danger is your best bet. This species will want to bury it's foot in the sand, usually near rock structures. As long as it's not being blown around by the water flow, it should "dig in" in time. How's it's overall color?

How's the water quality, lighting, chemistry and age of the set up?
Can you post a pic of what the mouth looks?

leave it alone unless it starts to shredd-or disintigrate or gets a clear gell around it meaning it has died. good luck, hope it settles in.

I have tried to post pics on here and I have had trouble. His color looks good and our water is all in good ranges. We have 2 250 halides and blue lights. Today his foot is skinny in the middle and looks like it wants to twist. I have no idea about this guy. He's moving around a bit in the tank but he's still not anywhere near sitting up. We are leaving him alone just wondering if he's ok. Jen

Jen,

What lights/tank depth was it kept under at the LFS? If there was a big jump in intensity from theirs to yours, it may be a source of stress to the anemone. Although they do like a good amount of light, they need to be eased into it if coming from an less intense system.

As far as posting pics, see <<here>>. Make note of the file sizes as well. That's the most common issue.

Is there anything oozing or leaking out of the mouth or does it look inside out ? Is his foot damaged or lacerated ? Are the tenticles sticky and does it react at all when you touch it ? Is there clowns being hosted by this Anemone ? If the mouth is gaping open it's not a good, usually a sign of stress or illness. I would avoid trying to place it anywhere let IT find a happy place.
