hi guys i just upgraded my lighting i currently have 6 t5 bulbs over a stan
100g with 55g sump. right now inhabitants are coral banded shrimp, cleaner shrimp, porcupine puffer, black and white Heniochus, and tessalted eel. with various hermits and snails, my question is i am debating getting a anemony with a pair of clown fish (they are a x-mas present from mom) but not sure about how they will do in a aggressive tank? and do i have enough lighting to even keep an anemony? I really have no plans on getting any other corals but would like to add a few more fish down the road. any opinion would be nice

thanks

Since this tank has been a FOWLR, I'd imagine your nitrates are pretty high. This will be BAD for an anemone. Also, I'm not sure, but I believe you have a few tank inhabitants that just might make lunch out of an anemone. Could be wrong about that. I'd suggest posting your water parameters, maintenance schedule and everything you can about your tank. With that information, you might be able to get more thorough advice about keeping an anemone. They need much more pristine water than a FOWLR tank.

okay forgive me but i cant find my paper that has all my last test results i remember them all being okay but i have one of those test all in one strip cheap for a quick check i ran not exactly the most accurate of all things but better than nothing for the moment.

nitrate ~20
nitrite 0
alk between 180 300 , sheet says ideal tough to read though
ph 8.3
ammonia = 0

those are all thats on the test

one thing i have used tap water in the past and only a month ago got a ro/di so i've been doing weekly water changes of around 5-10gallons not much but slowly trying to get the tap out and ro di in, in terms of equpiment i have a sump with a small sand bed with some live rock and cheato and a octopus skimmer that skimmerwhisper has modded. and thats about it tank has been up for around 5 months now

first of all the puffer may beat the banned have seen it happen even when puffer was much smaller then the shrimp i dont think will be a problem if u are keeping these things already

You'll want to aim for a nitrate of much less than you have. You'll want undetectable levels with those inaccurate test strips. Get yourself some quality, accurate test kits. I'd suggest Salifert or Elos. These are more expensive and each kit tests for a single element, but they're much more accurate.

The addition of the skimmer you have AND now having RO/DI water will definitely help. I'd suggest doing larger water changes to get those nitrates down.

I have a 75 with a 6xT5, and Nitrates have been off the charts, hovering at about 50 now, although I hit 25 the other day. I'm running RO water. This was a fish only tank, I started with dendro and schleronepthya's and after adding the lights picked up an anenome to host my one maroon clown fish that has dodged my lionfish for 6 years. The anenome split right after I bought it, and both are doing great. I don't have any shrimp (they get eaten) but i'm growing sps, lps and softies. I added a second tank a couple of weeks ago for more water volume and macro algae to work on the nitrate / phosphate but i'm not losing things. Hope that helps...

To answer the original question!
T-5s with individual reflectors and HO should keep an anemone just fine!
And yes with the ro filter and good skimmer your TRATES should go down and what returnofsid said ! Do a big water change to get TRATES and PHOS down! Before you do try to either blow off or brush off with soft brush or at least wave your hand over real good, your live rock to break loose all the "ikkies" (my wife cals it) then do a good size water change!

thanks guys i am no hurry and know that my tank is not set up for clowns and an anenomy, they would be an xmas gift and i was just unsure they would thrive im gonna hold off on them for a while thanks
