Yesterday I installed the new skimmer. After I did, I went out back to work on the shop. Some water squirted out and broke a 400 watt and a 175 watt bulb. The ends went into the tank and I have broken glass on the sand.

Where the problem is, is that the outside glass on the tube holds in some nasty stuff. Cannot remember if its a UV or what, but some of my corals that are under those lights are really ticked off! So, even though the bulbs still worked, they emit a bad light. Aside from the obvious safety issues!!!!!!!

So, dont run cracked or broken MH lights

Hopefully the corals will recover.

Hey Chris,

Definitely UV. The glass is the uv shield. Ask Mike all about cutting a swath through the tank when one of those breaks. Bad stuff. I hope your tank recovers well.

I am worried! That big Monti Cap (20 inch) got it the worst. Its pretty tan, except where the sheets coverd spots behind them :( All fingers and toes crossed here.

I think the Frogs and Hammers will be okay.
