I believe it is some kind of worm. There are alot of them.
They get really long when the lights are off.

Hmmm....I never seen that before. Would be interesting to see what it is. I remember once I shut my lights off and took a flashlight and saw some long bristle worms, but nothing like that.
 
Im talking about the white things. i cant get a better pic, my camera is a point and shoot. When the lights are off they stretch and float in the current. and when fully extender are about 4 to 5 inches,The pic i posted is shortly after the lights came on. They retract to about a 16th of an inch. There are no fish or coral in the tank so i dont know if they are harmful.

Pretty sure they're digitate hydroids. I have (had?) one in my tank that I haven't seen for a while. They're like hairy strings that can extend and retract themselves quite quickly and respond to light by "hiding". Very strange thing to watch. They're supposedly "bad", but the one I have/had never seemed to harm anything.
