hey all question for ya,

i have a 10 gallon nano that has been giong for around 10 months now. i have about 10 pnds lr and a 1 inch layer of sand. there are zoas, shrooms, trumpet corals, purple rimmed monti cap and pusling zenia corals all diong well. i also have one tail spot bennie one peppermint shrimp one astrea snail one cerith snail and two nas snails.

would like to add a deeper sand bed and make total depth about 4 inches, so would i just remove lr and all inhabitants with most water and then add additional sand and put lr and inhanitants back in. will this be safe for the corals and fish. has anyone done this before and have any tips. while the tank is empty i also plan on scraping the back glass and adding more flow. if you have any suggestions or thoughts i would love to hear them before moving forward with these plans.

thanks

Done it many times. Use a funnel and large diameter hose. Lower the hose and funnel first down into the existing sand to plug. Slowly add the sand by the cup full until settles on top of the old sand. Slowly spread as desired. Helps if you rinse the sand in some of your tank water first...No need to remove the rock unless you don't want to cover the bottom 2" of the rock. If you do not want the rock base covered, add the sand the slowly raise the rock and fill under it. Cautiously..

sounds like it has gone well for you thanks for the response and the advice. i am planning on moving the rock for a very short time so that the sand wont burry the lr and so it wont cause any irritation and so that i can use this is an opportunitie to aquascape all over again.

any other thoughts eperieces u like to share all
