Now that we're almost blessed with Western Washington's best weather - is anyone out there interested in some purely recreational diving? Way colder than that tropical tank you spend most of you day with - Puget Sound offers some spectacular diving experiences in a variety of locations. I have approximately ten years of UW diving experience in these waters and am always looking for others who also enjoy the serenity. Beginner or experienced - it really doesn't matter - this is only for recreation to view sealife - in their homes.

I haven't went diving in the Pac Northwest yet. I got my Master Diver quals before I left Florida. I even have a brand new Drysuit that has never seen water ready to go.

We could get a few of us together for a day of diving. I have an UW camera to capture the memories.

I could possible go, I have to pull out all my gear. I haven't gone in a while. After being certified for so long, it starts to actually get tedious.

My fiance is actually getting me... us.. diving lessons for my birthday next month. We've been interested for quite some time, and have just been waiting for the weather to get a little warmer!

Sorry tnat I didn't get back earlier but work demands that I be there - sometimes too often - but as you all realize - this obsession with glass cages takes funds as well as time. In any event, Puget sound offers some great sites with a host of critters to be seen. There are plenty of places to visit for the beginner to intermediate. Titlow beach in Tacoma or Edmonds ferry dock offer underwater parks where fishing is prohibited and and the fish get HUGE! Most of them are also good for photography. The best times for me would probably be Fridays or Saturdays(or Sundays) or an evening dive after 6 pm - actually I enjoy just about anytime.
Yep, drysuits are the way to go around here, with water temp about 48 degrees.
Jeff, sign up for those classes and get the book stuff behind you. Its a hobby that you can take with you anywhere. Have you spoken with Underwater Sports? They've got a few shops around the area and don't always place the dollar first.
Lets talk photography. I've got a Nikonos3 but without the strobe which is needed around here. Also an old Motor Marine (an older point and click). But need help with the Nikonos.
To me this is this is "recreation", no dives with mixed gases, 100 ft. depths, or wreck diving. I don't feel the need to prove anything, just go to 30-40 feet, meet some new critters, take some pix and come up the same number of times I go down. PM me if you're interested or if I can answer any questions..............Mark

Does anybody know of any good diver certificate training courses in the Seattle area? We have one down the hill from us near Alki and have heard of another one called Starfish in Queen Anne, i think. Thanks!

Jeff

Erik - Will do. I have heard that Starfish is the best in the area, but i've only heard that from one person as they were coming up onto Alki after a good day of diving. Haven't heard much else though.

local diving

Count me in! I have to round-up my gear as well. Advance notice will work if at least a week. Maybe get together on a Friday and meet/plan while eating sushi. THere is a great store on Bainbridge Island that I like.

Underwater Sports is having their annual Divers Fair at their Aurora Ave store just west of Northgate the End of July this year, the 30th,31st, and 1st.

Lots of great deals and give away door prizes.

Last year Certification courses were only $89 or 99 I think, then another $40 for the book, and plan on spending about $250-300 for a first set-up of needed mask/fins/snorkel, booties and gloves. Don't buy cheap gear! Your life may depend on it, and good fit is key.

You'll get everything else in the class for your first pool sessions and 4 open water divers in the class to get your C-card.

Great fun, whether in Puget Sound, or elsewhere in the world.

I'm up for a dive sometime, and want to explorer Edmonds Underwater Park. Anyone want to lead the dive tour there?

Really, try to attend UW Sports fair this summer at their store in the Northgate area. Reps from different companies will attend - giving away some great doorprizes and it will give you a chance to see the different styles out there. In the pat there have even been diving trips aboard "liveaboards" as prizes. I really can't say enough good things about the UW Sports stores. Instructors are truly qualified, they offer fair prices on new equiptment and the best service around. Dive clubs are also available at most for followup with dive trips. Independents offer most of the same but they don't have the same resources to draw from.
Count me in on the Edmonds Park dive, countless items have been deposited on the bottom there from torpedoes to a dry dock. Isn't that the place where some lawn-type dwarfs even inhabit the depths? Not to mention some of the largest fish you'll see in the northwest. I'll check the tides today.......Mark

I am in too. I am new to drysuit diving and would like to get more experience here in the NW. Keep me on the list.

Karen

I would like to take a refresher course on drysuit if anyone else is interested.

Sorry to take so long to get back - but I didn't think that anyone would've been interested over the weekend of the 4th. If anyone else is thinking about getting "wet", Edmonds State Park (next to the ferry dock) has a slack tide at 8:45 and 3 in the afternoon on Sunday the 11th. Slack really doesn't make that much difference due to the openness of the area, guess that I always try to dive the slack in Washington State. Saturday times are 8:15am and 1:30pm.
