Anyone out there good at building small glass tanks?

Hmm... I can't tell if thats a good thing or a bad thing, LOL.

You're going to have to elaborate a little on that Jason, I've always wondered if you were good with glass....

I just called south sound glass and they quoted me 69$ for the glass. I almost crapped my pants cuz it was so low. All the east side glass places, back when I was thinking about building a 12" cube wanted 60-70.

Now where do you guys get your black silicone?

And also, why is it that most commercial glass aquariums have the base piece of glass sandwiched between the sides? and most DIY tanks have the sides sitting on the bas piece of glass? I know it has to do with a floating bottom design, but is it necessary for a tank my size? And, I plan on having a few layers of soft stuff for the tank to sit on so its self balancing.

Bolun,
The Grainger part number is RTV 103 for Momentive Black RTV and RTV 108 for clear. There is a Grainger in South Seattle and one in Bellevue next to Lowe's. Sales are supposed to be business to business so if they ask you just tell them you work at Boeing. Boeing employees get lumped into a generic account. Let me know if you want some tips with the RTV. I redid all the seams in the 180 with RTV 108.

Ooo thanks for the tip Mike, if I say I work for Boeing, will I need any other information? and will I still be able to pay with CC/cash?

And is it like a retail store? I can just walk in and browse and etc?

Cash or card. Check out their website for browsing. They've only got a limited number of items out on the floor. The rest of the stuff is just sitting on the shelves in the back. At Grainger, it really helps to have a good idea of what you want going in. And no, you won't need any other info besides telling them you work at Boeing. If you're not sure about going in, just swing by one day and I'll take you to the one in Bellevue.

Okay so I was just at the grainger at bellevue and they didnt have 103 or 108, I think they said it would come in on monday or something. I'll definitely be sure to call next time and see if they have it.
