Anyone running Coralvue 14K??

I am considering switching to coralvue 14K 250W mogul bulbs and wanted to see if anyone has or is running these. How bright are they? Good growth still? Other comments are great.

I prefer Xm 10ks in SE, and if you are going with 14ks, I'd go with the new Hamilton.

Hi Guys I have another question on the same subject: can you run the Coralvue or the Hamilton On a HQI ballest?? Jeff??

I'm running the XMs now and I don't really like them. They hum and get a high pitch whine to them. I like the color, PAR, and price, but just can't stand the noise out of them.

Anyone else running Coralvue 14Ks?

What ballast are you using Reed?

I am using XM 10k SE on ARO Electronic Ballast, and all is silent.

i ran 20k coralvue with 10k ushio ,,i like it color better and growth rate are still keep on growing.

I am running Coralvue 14000k bulbs off a PFO HQI ballast. I like the color very much. It is not as blue as the 20000k and not as white as the 10000k. Pretty much right in the middle. Not too blue for me.

Regarding growth? I haven't seen near the kind of growth I was getting a couple of years back with my 10000k bulbs. But the coloration is certainly nice. I think it is more of a trick with the 14000k bulbs to position the coral right. If too far below the light, the energy isn't enough for some coral. Just have to make sure the light spread is good.

Overall I really like the Coralvue 14000k bulb. Oh, I would not run it without an HQI ballast. It does become bluer and less intense on a standard ballast.

Thanks Chuck. I guess I'll look elsewhere then. I'm running the Icecap electronic ballasts, so they won't overdrive the bulbs like an HQI does.

Maybe the hamiltons or just stay at 10K. Had I know this when I bought my ballasts I would've gone HQI from the start. I feel pretty limited in the blue spectrum. It seems anything above 10K and you lose a lot of intensy unless you run the HQIs.

Im running a 12k 175 watt coral vue powered by pfo and i dont really have a problem with it. Great price and nice color as well.

I currently Have the Same (old configuration ) On My PFO lIghts I have 2 ea 20 K Radium's on the ends and a 10k Ushio in the center I think i am going to try a Coralvue 14000k That Kevin has up in Spokane and see how it looks I kind of like the Blue from the Halides it goes well with our mainley pink,purple & blue corrals...
And I have the HQI ballest so it sounds like i will be ok there

The Coralvue bulbs are 15,000K and look best when driven by the PFO Pulse Start or HQI ballast. They look OK with the PFO standard magnetic ballast but are not as bright (this is the setup that is on the 90 gal at the store). Many of the SPS corals (specifically Acropora spp.) darken when placed at the bottom of the tank although my blue tortuosa does quite well there. Half way up (10" below the water and 19" from the bulb) they grow and look great. The above information is for 400W bulbs.
