Thanks again for that sandbed idea. Now when my friends who abhor sandbeds come over I can just lift them out before they show up and then put them back for my friends who insist they are absolutely necessary!

Kate

OMG I love that idea ...you can PLEASE everyone!! LOLOLOLOL

Wow Mikey....that tank is SWEET:D I need one just like it...

Happy April Fool's Day, Mikey!:D

I am glad you guys like the yellow stripping. I think it kinda gives the tank balance no?? It may look uncomfortable in old tank but Buddy (the fish) loves to give high fives with his tall fin. For flow I stuck a power head in front of him, so all good their. For waste control I have insert a tube directly from the source:p so it all gets exported!
Liveforphysics came by to help me set up the new algae filter. its a 1200 gallon bin...I think he got a little carried away

ROFL Well...That ain't chaeto!

dood he's gotta use something more thick to cover up you know, that's why  hmm... may be we should ask him to make us some algae and Chaeto skirts and we'll do a RF parade :D .

I am not sure why I am reading this(scratching Head with confused look). Years ago filtration was mere rock and water movement...Mike, you take it from here please?

LOL Thats funny.
Wouldnt some retread off the highway help with Nitrate reduction?
That is still being debated. And since Mike prefers to stay low-key and avoid controversy, he is waiting for more conclusive studies.

LOL Great thread. I didn't know the Canadian Reef tank went that far south of the boarder. Could you please explain your rock placement? It seems you have figured out how to recreate the the natural lines you would see on a mountain road after a mudslide.

Cheers my friend, people have worked years to achieve what you have.

After much research I can say with some certainty that the rock is Labrea asfaultinsis with an encrusting yellow P. stripeacornis. It is a very slow grower which can be expected to have a growth spurt annually in the spring. The rock is a poor choice as it is subject to pothole disease and can actually become rubble in a very short time. Good choice for the P. stripeacornis though it is quite hardy accepting a wide range of lighting and can do well in temperatures ranging from -20F - 170F.

Regards,
Kevin
