I used JJ when they first came out, free I used kalk paste, shrimp!
If yo leave just part of one it will spread, if you have them you need to get them all at once. JJ will stun them but they will come back in the exact spot a few weeks later guaranteed. Even with pristine water they will grow & spread.

Don what exactly do you mean by needing extra rock work? I know what you are getting at and that is high nutrient levels and yes they will be high with all aggressive carnivore fish in the tank, that is why I have a large skimmer that is rated for a 500 gallon tank on it. it pulls out about 2 gallons of skimate a week. let me know what you think I need to do as in what ever it is more rock work means..

BTW hope this doesnt sound sarcastic because it isnt in any way. you just never know how it sounds on the other end of the cpu....

All is good. If I see two or three aptasia I really dont worry. If they start to spread I know I need to blow off the rocks a little more often. When I'm in a tank cleaning groove and keep everything just so, the aptasia will starve off. Skimmer rated for 500g and 2 gallons of skimmate a week, would tell me there has to be a nutrien issue. You can poison them all day and never get them all without starving them. I love seeing skimmer threads where folks show pictures of that dark foul stuff they collected overnight. My first thought is "do a water change or three". Its my experience that if your tank is clean youll easily control aptasia and keep all the inhabitants much happier.

Don, you are absolutley right about that. if its pulling that much skimate out then the water is pretty dirty, I just got some feeding supplies today from marine depot including: 20'' feeding prong which I can target feed my aggressive eaters and know they all get fed rather then overfeeding to be sure they all get some. I am sure I will find a good balance over time.

I know that copper banded butterfly's also eat aptasia....If you are looking at that idea......I got some stuff to kill it off live aquaria and it is really amazing...the stuff I got almost instantly killed em off....Just type in aptasia in the search bar on the website....good luck ..those things can be a pain I have a bit in my nano right now and thank god they are'nt out of control yet. There is also a nudibranch that eats them but be careful about that......

A new product called aptasia control, it is a liquid and Bridges pets in Lake stevens sells it

I dont know anything about it I just know I saw it today when I was picking stuff up for cyano

Well I just used Joe's Jucie and I must say it seems to work great! the eat it then within 5 seconds they start to decompose. this stuff turned the aptasia into a pile of goo!

I will let you know if and when they start to return (fingers crossed)

Update on the aptaisa.....

well of course the aptasia all started to come back and spread like wild fire again! I had about 10 of them total.
then over night my copperband got a taste of one and now they are all gone!! in one day...

maybe I finally got him trained:lol:

Atta way Matt, getting them out the natural way is the best. All the other methods seem to be just a temporary fix, at least IME. A threadfin will also munch aiptasia.

That is a threadfin/auriga butterfly. They will nip at polyps, so you get them at your own risk. All I know is that this guy took an aiptasia problem to absolute zero in 3 weeks. I had hundreds of them.
