I Have Been Reading About The Importances On Using Ro Water Vs Tap Water In My Tank And The Benifits Of Ro Water Seem Overwelming. So With That In Mind I Have Been Reading About The Aqua-safe Ro Di System On Ebay And Many People Seem To Recommend It. I Believe I Want To Order One My Question Is, How Much Water Is Wasted By Using This System And Are Their Any Drawbacks Or Anything I Shouild Be Aware Of That I Might Run Into Or Need Later After Purchansing This System. Thanks P.s. I Have Just Started Posting On This Website , I Am A Saltwater Newbie, And So Far You Guys, And Girls Have Been Great, Thanks. I Welcome Any Suggestions Or Inmformation On This Topic

I have some problems with the Aqua-Safe systems on ebay. They claim the systems are 100gpd, have a 99.8% rejection rate, and use FilmTec membranes. The problem is that in their picture it clearly shows an 1812 membrane, which makes sense because that's the industry standard. Unfortunately the 100gpd 1812 membrane rejects only 90%; meaning the DI cartridge won't last very long. The 75gpd membrane is the one you want, since it does reject a minimum of 98% of TDS. The only FilmTec 100gpd membrane that rejects 99% is the 2013 model, which doesn't fit in a standard membrane housing. Check out http://www.airwaterice.com/ They have good prices and everything I've ordered from them is high-quality.

One of the canisters from my Aqau-safe RO/DI leaked when I got. They sent me out a new one right away. Other than that I have been very happy with mine. I got the 100g/day one with the sink and ice maker attachments and haven't had any problems with it, except for that first leaky canister. I also got enough filters and DI cartridges to last more than two years and the total was still less than most basic systems.

My tap water comes out at 50ppm TDS and after the membrane comes out at 0-1 TDS. How much wast water you get depends on what you water pressure is and how warm the water is. I have a well and I bumped my line pressure from 40psi to 60psi and I noticed that it took my storage tank about half the time to fill up. Up here in the winter time it is in the low 40s to 30s and it drops to about 30g per day.

I live in Surprise AZ which is basically a subdivision of Phoenix. My water seems to always be warm. Its tough for me to get cold water sometimes. Unfortunatly I don't understand what the rejection rates mean. Does that mean the if I put 100 gallons of tap water through it, I will only get 1 gallon of Ro water out of it?

they will NOT swap out the 100gpd filter for the 75 if you ask. Usually these filters throw away 4:1 (gal out to gal made). The rejection rate is basically the percent purity by the RO filter only. It doesn't take into account the carbon/sediment prefilters or the DI afterwards.

Was this for me? If so, I never said they would swap them out. That's why I don't really like their systems. With airwaterice you get the choice of which membrane you want.

The reason the 100gpd membrane doesn't work well is because it leaves the TDS level higher than the 75gpd unit. After the DI cartridge it's still going to be zero, but it leaves more for your DI to mop up. For example, if your TDS at the tap is 200, the 100gpd membrane on average will leave you with a level of 20. If your DI cartridge removes 5000ppm between changes, that means it will last for about 250 gallons of water. The 75gpd membrane on the other hand will bring that TDS down to about 4, which means the same DI cartridge will purify about 1,250 gallons. Big difference. If you're in the business of selling DI cartridges the 100gpd membrane makes sense.

The rejection rate is, on average, the percentage of impurities the RO will filter out. The acual percentage depends on the impurity. TDS is a measurement of total dissolved solids in the water, which is a very raw way to test how pure the water is. All things being equal, the TDS level will drop after the membrane by the percentage of rejection rate. This always varies because the membrane rejects different ions at different rates. The sediment filter does nothing to the TDS; it simply filters out larger particles in the water. These particles don't show up on TDS monitors. The carbon filter does very little if anything to the TDS level as well, since most of what it filters also doesn't show up as TDS. The remaining amount of TDS after the RO is removed completely by the DI cartridge.

Well all I can speak from is my experince with aquasafe. I have one, I like it. It makes zero tds as fast as I can use it. I own a aquarium maintence service so I go thru alot of water. Clay is dead on the using up di resin. My thing is that it last me about 3 months, and I go thru 170 gallon a week. So it makes about 2000 gallons before I have to replace it. Its 39.99 plus 15 shipping for enough for 4 refills so its not one of my big costs. Since I charge .50 cents a gallon its a profit making system for me. I like them recomend them.

Yes I also have one and am pleased with it. To put it simply, you will get 1 gallon of purified water for every 4 or 5 gallons you put through it.

where can you get the 75gpd membraine. how much does it cost. finaly how do i tell how many tds i have in my water. Im sure its alot because our water sucks.

I believe you can find 75 gpd units on ebay. Inexpensive TDS meters are availible on the web also, just do a search.

Just ordered

Does someone have the aquasafe catalog they can email me? [email protected]

I ordered one up a couple days ago and am pretty excited to finally have my own rodi! No more lugging around purified water!!!
