So i left to take my midterm at 545pm come home to a over flooded skimmer at 9 even tho it was working fine. F Ing eshopps skimmer ran water down onto my outlet and completely melted everything. Not only that but i was adjusting my salinity by filling my sump to full with a higher salinity water. So my sump flooded about 4 gallons onto the floor. The skimmer was working perfectly with dark skimate and completely open. I dunno wtf happened for it to over flow cause its not doing that now. (currently running everything off extension chords) GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR :evil::evil::evil::evil::evil:

last pic. And it over flowed so hard with the down pipe that it out competed the cup drain line and it eventually stopped draining from the full 2 liter with a hole in the cap.

I am having troubles with mine too. . . I just run the overflow into the tank so that it saves my ass. . . And it has a few time. They like to overflow for fun.

If you dont have an overflow, I would suggest making one and putting the tube into the tank. Great insurance i believe.

The cup overflowed out of the tank. The output was in my overflow box. It was working fine after the overflowing and bubbly break in period. I dunno why something spiked the thing. it pisses me off.

I am talking about an overflow taped into the collection cup. Mine has this and the hose is placed back into the tank. I have come home and it was spilling back into the tank through this hose a couple times (saved my butt).

oh yeah the hose was going two a 2 liter but the two liter got full and was sealed cause the hose was going into a drilled cap and so it got plugged.

Going to get a gfi outlet tomorrow. And another american dj strip since the strip(not the current dj) that was running my lights is fried.

man that really sucks. when you get your gfi cords make sure your not over loading them. and try not to use a outlet that is directly behind you tank. salt with collect and start a fire sooner than later. if you have to use that out let make sure to check it everyday and clean it. you might also make some sort of water tight splash gaurd. you got a lot going on behind you tank with a over flow skimmer. those are always nothing but bad news. get a sump and stick it below the tank if you can. evemt if its just a trash can to stick the thing in. i have had more than one electric fire before i learnd my lesson. my best tip would be dont use that plug in. also by heavy duty gfi cords. as most cheep ones are not ment for saltwater or exstended use. and hang them with a loup. so if water gets on them it will drip below the plug.

i noticed if i changed to much water on my tank with the etss skimmer, it starts to overflow. could it be the changes in salinity to cause your eshopps skimmer to overflow? lowes has one of those plastic outlet covers that can help with protecting your outlet. its the kind you use outdoors. i think its about 6 bucks

One thing you may want to change in the future is get a power strip and do away with plugging anything into that 3 outlet adapter. Those things IMO are a fire hazard waiting to happen too.

Cheers,
Alex

Wow... consider yourself lucky! I'd have to second this advice about abandoning that outlet. In fact, I'd remove the outlet itself and throw a cover plate over it. With the amount of stuff you had going on right next to that outlet, something was eventually going to happen. Glad to hear it wasn't as ugly as it could've been!

Thanks for the tips. That outlet is the only one available with out moving the tank across the room. Im just going to replace it with the cfi and use an outdoor hinge cover. I needed the 3 way because i was one plug short on my dj strip. But am going to buy a second one so no need for that anymore. And yes i do have a sump and having one couldn't prevent the skimmer to overflow unless you mean hang the skimmer on it which i cant because the sump it too short. Thanks again for the comments i didn't even think about a hinge box till now.

also with the back of the stand in front of the outlet i haven't seen any salt creep .. i ran a fan on it all night and the out let still works. Im going to replace it anyways of course. But yes out of what happened i believe this to be the best possible outcome.

i cant even focus with, my e30 looking me in the face... its crazy.. thats what mine looks like...

anyway..

get your self some power strips and place a drip loop in

count your blessings man...

stay in it tho....... merely a flesh wound

Always make sure that you do a drip loop for your cables... water always goes down but not up...
