At what point is the tank to big?

One other limitation that I've ALMOST ran into...
Measure your door openings! I'm in an older home, with narrow door openings. My 200DD barely fit through the door...lol. I had to build the stand in sections, outside, and then assemble the sections inside, as the stand will not fit through the door.

I can get both door jams out in about an hour and back in the next day (next time will be faster)...

Seriously, I would pick the option with the largest footprint (sq ft) rather than volume. I am finding that "go big" with "go tall" has some unforeseen challenges.

I am a fan of wide tanks (front to back) as it opens up more space. With big tanks the width seems to stay at 24" and the tanks just get taller. At 30" tall it is really tough to reach the bottom and get light all the way down. I would much rather have a tank 30" wide and 24" tall than my current 24X30". Other than the major issues of installation I would go for the 4x4x2' 240 gal over a 8x2x2' 240gal.

A good compromise is the good old 120 (2x2x4') and 180gal (2x2x6') tank as they are mass produced and easier to find for a good price.
