Tank of the Month August
Hope & Tylers (Sailors_wife) 125 Gallon
Owner Hope and Tyler (Sailors_wife) Tank Size 125gallon glass free standing tank. We purchase the tank from a fellow reef frontier member Haris Helm. Haris and his father worked very hard on this tank they built the stand and canopy by hand out of poplar. |

| Lighting The lights are two 250w metal halides powered by a galaxy ballast. The two halides are also supported by two super actinic VHO and two daylight VHO powered by an ice cap 660 ballast. |
Filtration Haris also built the sump as well because he purchased a new skimmer that was far to large for the sump that he had. He had bought a ASM 400 plus it was meant for a 400gallon tank because of his love for lots of fish, we share the same love. |

Date Tank Was Started This tank was a upgrade from a 55gallon to a 125gallon glass free standing tank. My husband and I set it up on May 23, 2012. How Did You Get Into This Hobby? I have been in the hobby about 6 years. I have always had freshwater tanks as long as I can remember. I had always wanted to start a saltwater tank, so I decided I'd give it a shot. I bought a small 20gallon tank as a starter from craigslist had everything with it even a sad little clown fish that was in a green hair algae wonderland...I soon found out that I was a lost cause I was in way over my head and haven't wanted to be saved since. My love for my Little Ocean is very deep. |
|
| What Was Your Favorite Part of The Build? I think it was realizing that I had tons of extra space to add more things to my tank. Dosing and Schedule. I really don’t use that much to my tank Coral Vital is the main thing, I use a cap every day and when I notice a fish has something on it or is acting funny ill add a couple extra caps till everything is back to normal. Feeding (Fish and Coral) and Schedule. I feed red sea pellets in the am then I always keep algae strips in tank because we have lots of Tangs. I also use oyster feast 3 days a week. |
Do You Have a Favorite Fish and Why? My fav fish is our yellow tang because he is always out and happy. My husbands fav is the Moorish idol. What Is Your Favorite Type of Coral? Galaxea I love the color, and the movement is awesome. |
