back from vacation, been soaking in the SW looking at the "real" thing. snorkeling is so great!!! I'm sure I've seen a million tangs. I saw several orange shoulders that were as big as a platter. very cool. I still hate it though when I see a trigger or humu take a bite out of an SPS and swim off munching away.
we went to this one bay and there was a good sized stream flowing into it. we'd been there before and had seen a lot of cool stuff. anyway this time the snorkeling was tough cause you couldn't see anything because everything was blurry. turns out the FW floats on top of the SW and when you're trying to look through FW into SW you can't see much. dive down a foot or 2 and everything cleared up. it was amazing how the two waters didn't mix. I was 100+yards away from the mouth of the stream and still had to dive to see anything. I was worth it though as I did see a manta ray about 10 feet away from me!!
the other amazing part was the temp difference between the two waters. the FW was 15-20 degrees colder than the ocean. then I was thinking about all the coral and fish in this bay that live and thrive with this constant flushing of FW when there is rainstorm in the west Maui mountains. funny how we all try to keep constant parameters and then we blame any problem on some fluctuation. imagine draining all the water out of your tank and then filling it with FW that was 15 degrees colder and then slowly adding back in some warm SW...... crazy.
anyway had fun got a tan :cool:and now I'm back to work. still looking for a big tank to house my FW monster fish so I can start a small reef in my 210......
I hope everyone is doing well. let me know if there is going to be a meeting in Missoula, I think I could make it there

Good to have you back, and I am really glad you didn't have an attachment to eels this year ;)
I would like to try to talk Devon into having a meeting so we could see his "newer" tank again, it is pretty awesome!
