Dear friends
I am trying to understand the biologic of new aquarium
What is the rate of bacteria reproduction? I am talking about the aerobic bacteria who give us NO3 ..
I don’t know if the rate is the same like other bacterias that can duplicate themselves in 20 min
Thank you

It is postulated that Nitrite Oxidizing Bacteria (Nitrospira spp) have a much slower growth rate than Ammonia Oxidizing Bacteria (Nitrosomonas spp). In fact, that's the only reason for the Nitrite spike when first cycling a tank. They are inhibited by high levels of Ammonia so if you have a large Ammonia spike, your Nitrite spike will also be higher because the reproduction rate is depressed temporarily. Dr. Tim Hovanec has found that the population will double every 27~33 hours or so but this depends on temperature. Higher temps (say 82) will cause higher respiration and reproductive rates than a lower temp (maybe 76).

There's a couple of real good articles that I cannot find right now. However, this is good reading. Nitrospira: the real nitrite-oxidizing bacteria in aquaria

Nitrospira, not Nitrobacter...Again!

With your help..
.. I will be more wise :) …
thank you my friend !!
