bad macro?

are there types of macro algae that are bad for a reef tank?
i have a green branching macro that grows kind of like a acro(coral) but with blunted ends like a hammer coral. it gets all fuzzy every once in a while but is smooth at others. the green color i darker on the edges and lighter in the middle of branches like it is semi transparent.
ill try to get a pic but camera sucks.
just wondering if it could cause problems other than overgrowth

Codium fragile. It's not an aggressive or harmful algae at all.

Codium is non invasive, and a pretty cool algae. Keep in mind that it is a Calcium based Algae, so will consume calcium, from your water column. It's not going to consume it at a very fast pace though.
