Echinopora mammiformis. Apparently, a really ticked off one. Anyway, as these corals are becoming increasingly available and popular, I just thought I'd extend a warning that they possess very powerful sweepers that can actually extend the length of their bodies. So be careful about mounting them next to another prized specimen as uncontrollable sobbing may indirectly result.

WOAH! Thanks for posting this pic. Really amazing what the defense mechanisms are of some of our livestock.

Hi Michael,
That is a great picture! Thanks for posting. It might prevent a nasty puddle of tears :D
Other SPS can also attack. Here is a picture of one that had something against the glass it was near.

Regards,
Kevin

Well, you know what they say: Streamers don't kill corals, corals WITH streamers kill corals. :D

Kevin you are having fun with that new camera. 64ivy I never have looked at my ehinopora that close.

Michael that is a nasty sweeper there... I have not got into the echino. faze yet but this will definitely give me something to think about....If I do.

Kevin, is it trying to go through the glass?? ;)

so michael, what did you have it near that caused the sobbing in your case?
Me? Nothing, thank goodness. The two pieces closest to it are my PM on one side and my now famous World's Ugliest Efflo on the other but either way I've still got a few inches to spare.

...umm, wait...

man you had to remind me, i have been having recurring dreams about owning some of the W.U.E. for like 2 years!
