I wanted to learn a bit more about this topic.

With ballasts for Halides that go bad what problems can they cause...?

Does it change spectrum of light produced?

How much watt loss can happen?

Does it destroy the lifespan of bulbs?

What other issues does bad or dieing ballasts produce for livestock and environment?

Is it a fire hazard , possibly some part being bad and eventually frying?

Thanks I have been grasping a little of the faq's and read some stuff at R.Central...and other sites.

I just googled Odyssea Fire...dude..I had so many hits ...Not Good.

(my question though generalized is related to my odyssea light hood)

It seems somehow that brand managed to get a ballast to fire off a 250w bulb and only push upto 150w out of it... several sites I've read about it and also the ballasts catching fire.

Glad I just changed it.... I also "thanks to your link" understand what my entire root problem of my tank is....

I will NEVER buy Jebo/Oddysea light product again.
