Best Protein Skimmer and Kalkreactor

depends on the tank size. for smaller tanks under 50 gallons The remora is supposed to be a great skimmer. I have used a bakpak on a old 29 gallon and it did a decent job. For larger tanks There are alot of good skimmers. I am currently using a euroreef skimmer on my 75 gallon and It does a good job. I looked in to skimmers for a while before I bought the euroreef and all I could find was good stuff about them. I think every one can agree that they are one of the best. And they aren't that expensive. Euroreef makes every one advertize the same prices so there is no high markup at stores.

For my tank (112gal design, aimed at SPS dominant) I chose a EuroReef es6-2+ and went with a Cutsom Reeffan Reactor (though If I had the cash to spend I would get a deltec).

What is your setup like?

Agree, if you are running a larger SPS tank, it is hard to beat the Euro-reefs (or the cheaper ASM knockoffs). If you are just thinking softies and LPS or are running a smaller tank, then perhaps a euroreef might be a bit much (which would be up for debate).

I can't give much advice on the reactors...

Take er easy

hugging his Euroreef Cs-8. Its ok baby, I know you can do it. I would sleep with this thing if I could. My wife would slap me silly.

If we could just make it look like our weenie dog I would have it made......

I'm a big fan of a Beckett injector skimmers for bigger tanks like my 135, and the My Reef Creations skimmer has to be one of the best bang and buys for the buck.

I run the MR-2, powered by a mag 18. They're an improved clone over the Precision Marine PM Bullet series.

The MR-2 uses a single beckett injector, but I had them add a plug for a future additional becket whenever my 180-240 gallon reef shows up. Expandability is nice!

The skimmer is top notch, in fact one of the nicest retail consumer skimmers I've seen. Its great that you can adjust both the water level in the reactor, as well as the amount of air being let into the beckett port too.

ITS VERY VERY QUIET TOO!!!

Check out the new skimmer, it's the MR-2 model with a 6" diameter reactor chamber stepped down to a 4" diameter collection cup.

Its a very well made unit, easy to clean, and the quality shows.

I wish the Euroreef didn't have such a big footprint! The only place I could put it would be in the sump area after my refugium. And the skimmer would probably suck up all my pods, wouldn't it?

Thanks all,

LOL - you know....I really shouldn't laugh at this because when I opened up the box my Euro-reef came in, I fell in love with it. I wanted to make a nice place for it to sleep.... I felt like the Dad from the movie "A Christmas Story" when he opened up his prize leg lamp.

DrewDown, ever consider the external model instead of the in-sump?

Just for links sake, here is another:

Aqua-C Website

IMO, Aqua-C makes a great skimmer as well. When I was deciding what type of skimmer to have on my tank, it was a tough debate between the two.

I wouldn't think it would make much of a diff on if you are in sump or out, you still are dealing with a certain size intake on the pump either way with a given pump rate per hr. It would be better to have your skimmer first, but probably a lot of bugs would still get by if you have good current going through the sump don'y you think? and you could face the pump intake away from the refug inlet to your sump

My Euroreef is located after my refugium and my Mandarin that I have is coming up on a year in the tank and is doing well. The Skimmer does get some pods but not all.

I chose Euroreef CS8-2 for my 150 gal sps tank. Still not up and running yet. :(

i like my bullet 1 beckett style. i have it running outside my sump. have a japanese iwaki 30 running it which might be too much cause i have to tweak it everytime change the water level. happy otherwise though.
