My husband and I would like to browse through some reef shops this weekend and I would like some opinions on the best places in the Puget sound area to to go. We would like to see some shops that sell the stands and aquariums as well as have some nice reef displays for ideas. We would appreciate any ideas on where to go. We live in Kirkland.

Be sure to check out all of our sponsors from the local area, all have great shops with great staff and offer discounts to PSAS members!

First of all... I welcome you Barb... WELCOME!!!!!!

and like Todd said... check the sponsors....
Personally, I go to Blue Sierra in Issaquah. Fish Gallery in Renton. I recommend Coral Beauty in Seattle.

Barb,
welcomne to the site. I personally like Blue Sierra. They have a good combination of set-ups and display tanks. Denny's is starting their salt tanks and you won;t see a lot there. Although I do go there for some supplies and I even bought a set up from them. I also go to a few other shops for livestock. If you want more detailed info PM me.

Check out Indoor Reef down in Tacoma also a board sponsor. I think he has one of the finest fish selections I have seen period. Tons of reef safe stuff and all are truly quarantined before being offered for sale. Picked up a nice copperband butterfly this week. Good selection of high end reef gadgets to. Small shop but worth the drive to Tacoma. Happy Hunting !

I second John's vote for Indoor Reef, I'm lucky enough to have them local! They are open today Saturday (10 - 8pm) and tomorrow Sunday (11 - 6pm).

I also like Indoor Reef, they are nice guys to deal with and there systems are looking better and better all the time. They usually have some nice sps pieces every time I go in there. If you take a peek in the back you will see what John is talking about, they have more tanks for quarantine then for display.

Coral Beauty is the shop with the Best Deals and Best Service.

I Also Like Below Sea Level(++) and Blue Sierra (a little expensive)

Fish Store in Seattle is Out of The Question Expensive($5 scarlet hermits -no break on volume order!)

Thank you all for your help. First place we visited today was Saltwater City. They had some nice corals and clams. My husband was fascinated. :))
We looked up Blue Sierra on switchboard and noticed their was one in Bellevue which we visited but they didn't have much we were interested in at the moment. The Issaquah branch must be the best one for saltwater.
Before we left I called Coral Beauty to get their address. They are a real class act. They didn't have acrylic tanks in the sizes we were looking for so they sent me to the Fish Store in Seattle. We looked around there and they have some good prices on acrylic tanks. We didn' buy anything yet because we're still up in the air a bit on what we want.
Before we went home we went to Dennys. They seemed to have a better selection than the other places we went.
We enjoyed our trip and now have a better idea of what we want.
We will have to visit Blue Sierra-Issaquah and the Indoor Reef in Tacoma on another day.

You have already talked to phil and shelly so your know how great they are. Once you get you acrylic they will be a great place to by the rest.

Blue Seirra is one of the larger Saltwater stores in Washington.
Make sure to visit them. As far as corals go in your area. Coral Beauty, Blue seirra, and Saltwater city. The rest are smaller so it can be hit or miss.

Btw Just go to Issaquah and dont waste your time with the other fish gallery locations if you are looking for coral. There renton locaton might have some tanks but you can always call and ask.

Wish I had found this place and this page before I had made the trip up this weekend.

It will be useful tho; I'm going to be in Seattle a lot for work this summer. I'll be checking these places out, lol.

Whenever I see these, I have to post about The Shark Reef. For LPS and Rose bubble anenomes, they are hands down the best price. Eric is a direct importer, No sea dwelling creatures, etc from California. Huge shipments with large specimens and small frags for a fraction of the cost. There is always plenty to choose from. So if you will make it to Silverdale in Kitsap county, West side of Puget Sound for the out of towners, you have to stop. As far as supplies on hand for great eye candy and SPS, I would say Blue Sierra. For best price although not on hand but available in a few days and the best service, Coral Beauty wins here. There Livestock is nice as well. Livestock is displayed in a way that everything looks like it is part of the display tanks. I sometimes feel awkard about asking prices, but they are interested in the hobby themselves and the hobbyists and want to talk to you about what you need and want and asking about specimens and price is a great way to get a conversation going. Hopefully more SPS will be available and do not forget about the live food they offer. Look at their tanks and you will see what live regular feedings will do. Their livestock do not survive, THEY THRIVE. Despite my favorites, I do make it to all of the local stores and buy certain things from each one. I like the differences I see even though I sometimes leave a couple of the stores shaking my head.

Best of luck and happy hunting

We went to Blue sierra Issaquah today. They have a better selection of tanks and stands than Dennys. I couldn't find any tanks at Denny's with built in overflows. They had lots at Blue Sierra.

My favorites are Blue Sierra in Issaquah, Shark Reef in Bremerton and Extreme Marine in Olympia. All hve good selectiona clean facilities and good supply of drygoods. I've been into Below Sealevel twice and although thay have some nice stuff there prices were way to high.

I dropped by Blue Sierra today to pick up a tank that I ordered. Very very nice shop. The prices were decent (although the only other LFS I've checked out so far hsa been Below Sea Level), the staff was friendly and helpful, and t was a very well set up store.

Still need to check out Saltwater City and Coral Beautiful, but Blue Sierra will definitely have more of my business as I slowly setup this tank.
