I have a tank in my system that only has rock in it. I would like it to grow sponges in there for their water filtration/purification capacity, and also I want to grow pods without predators so they will flow into my display tank.

questions-

-Are these two goals compatible or is the ideal environment for sponges not ideal for pods (or vice versa)?
- Do I need to light this tank? I have not been lighting it or feeding it...maybe that practice is not going to produce the results I want.

thanks for your help ~ :)

Wow,
Darn good question !

I look forward to the repsonses.

Like you i have been thinking is a pods tank.

Jan- Do a search for "benthic", and "cryptic"....

I believe those are two of the more common buzzwords that will help you determine what is needed toward what you want.

There is only a few types of sponges that are photsynthetic. Just get some live rock from various sources and your goals should be accomplished. Sponges are the easiest to grow, except the ones that you pay for! Those are almost impossible and are doomed to death.
