Folks,
I have been browsing MASNA website (Thanks to Ed for hooking me up with this fantastic website) and I was wondering if we want to BID for MACNA annual conference. That will be a fantastic event for us given the volume of speakers they bring to the town and the exhibition booth.

I will try to engage Seattle Aquarium and see if they're willing to participate with us in co-hosting this event. Nothing to lose anyways except for some time investment if nothing works out (and biggest thing if it works out).

What do you think?

Thanks Kris for the information. Do you think we've a chance to work with Seattle Aquarium to make this happen? At the end of day, if Seattle Aquarium gets interested, we'll have the right resources and it will be a win-win situation for us.

Ghazni, I think its a great idea,
First I think we should deal with whats already on our plate. Get non profit status, finish the web site, possibly get T-shirts and sweaters as planned last summer, get our checking account in order, get some meetings behind us, get dontations up, get meeting attendance up, get overall membership up.
If we can accomplish these things this year and arent all burned out next spring or summer, then I think its a great idea for a future goal.

Hey no worries, we will definitely tap that energy! But I agree this club needs some work to build up membership and meeting attendance. I joined the club solely because they brought Lee Birch in to speak and I am a big fan of his. I was in Ontario on a business trip and was monitoring the PSAS forum because we had a wind storm in this area and I could not get in touch with home (phone was down and we do not get cell service up here in the sticks). I was worried about my tank and my families ability to maintain it through a power outage. Then I saw the announcement regarding Lee speaking at the next meeting and knew I had to go! Even though I had flown across the country that morning, I drove up to BCC to join the club and attend this event. My second meeting was a frag swap and I was hooked.

I think we need to focus on getting the club legal and getting the membership engaged through exciting events and then we can look out further at something like MACNA. I know there are other clubs around (Portland, Tri Cities etc.) that maybe we could join up with to host such an event. But I agree the PSAS is not ready to handle something like this currently.
