SUx?

why is it a mission to get that thing to stay spining fast?

any tips?

You don't want them spinning fast rather slow & steady. The idea is to continually present a complete coverage of the entire surface area to the falling water. These I wouldn't use in a marine tank, also bio-balls, I don't think they will work as well as LR!

They're good for a QT tank though. ;)

I bought a brand new one to fit into a borrowed filter from a FW tank. The thing never spun "fast" and it didn't take long to start "stumbling".

"stumbling".

much better choice of words.....

it doesnt take long for the stumbling effect to take over.

anyone ever mod then to make them not slow..... is it just the pump that makes the wheel slow?

i ask cause yesterday morning the wheel was stoped....
thats why i was angry

with or with out the filer pad?

that things was in my tank for like 2 weeks,

some of the stuff fell off the pad, when i was messing with it... (was in bucket of salt water)

is it better to take the pad out and let the bio wheel spin more freely? OR
leave it replace it regularly? OR just dont touch it....

you never want to replace them, Think of them as a bed of good bacteria. They are ment to be Bioballs or live rock. As for them not spinninng fast or not at all. They are meant to spin fast you want the water to sit on the surface of those wheels as long as possible. When they stop just give them a little push and clean out the groove that the metal ends sit in. Or just do yourself a favor and upgrade to atleast a hang on filter/protein skimmer (cpR)

I have one on my nano reef and I am wondering if I should remove it after everything I have read here, could it be a cause of some serious algee problems I am having?

the algea, problem is most likely from excess nutrients. (no3-ph4) water changes will solve that, the hob could be aiding 2 the cause tho.... if gung'd up and nasty (full of waste)

21677: i was talking about the filter pad... and the bio wheel sepretly....

do i want to change the filter?/ever/to make clean/exc exc.
and the bio wheel, isnt that the place for the bacteria to live?

Im confused....

the YSP i put in there is growing and stuff.... so i guess the tank is not that bad.....

Yes, I believe so. The bacteria that is growing on the wheel is not able to convert the nitrates into nitrogen. Excess nitrates will fuel algae growth.
