ok, i have a problem. i have a biocube 29 with chemipure elite in the first chamber instead of the ooriginal biocube filter. i have 3 damsels and i have 20-40ppm nitrates. the chemipure is the only modification. please?

how old is your chemi pure how often do you clean the back are there bio balls they trap gunk and will cause nitrate

RoDi Water? Loose the balls....Nitrate makers there... maybe put Carbon filters in place of the balls. Definatly do a wc with Perfect water..10-15Gs would do. Happy reeffing.

yeah RO water. i heard about the bioballs ut then i heard mixed opinions and the guy at the fish store said its ok to have bioballs. i dont know what to do there but should i get a protein skimmer, what are the advantages/disadvantages? thanks for the help. I have had the chemipure elite for 2 months now and i clean it frequently.

Nitrates are bad for all inhabitance in a tank. Nitrates = Stress. Any thing over 20PPM is really bad, try and get down to 0.
