I want to switch from bare bottom to black sand in my 14 gallon biocube but I'm wondering what is the best kind of black sand to use. Any suggestions on brands and where to get it?

Thanks, do you know if that stuff is non-magnetic? I hear that some of the black sand is and that it clings to the glass cleaner magnets.

Using caribsea Hawaiian black sand in my 8gal, love it, looks great.

I used the same in my 40b for a while. I thought it looked great.

In answer to your later question, it was not magnetic.

I picked it up from Rob at Red C in Shoreline.

Never noticed, so I tried it and couldn't get anything to stick to the small magnet i normally used to clean my nano. So tried using my large Great white magnet that I use for my 150 and I did get a few grains to stick to the magnet. So looks like there is some magnetic behavior in the sand, but it is not noticable until you are using a large strong magnet and right up against the sand bed.

Great, sounds like magnetic won't be a problem, so I'll head down to Red C to pick up a bag. By the way, I love that store. I wish I lived a little closer to it.
