Well more info is going to be needed. So we dont have to search around for it,
what is the size of your tank?
How long has it be running?
What do you have for lighting?
what are the parameters
ammonia, nitrates, nitrites & pH
calc, alk and mag will help too.
What happened when the other nem died. Did it melt in the tank?
Did you do any water changes afterwards?

I'm sure there will be more questions. OH, what are you feeding your fish? and is your clown feeding it?

Ah, some of those questions have been answered, but I will try to answer the rest.

my setup has been running since last march, ammonia/nitrates/nitrites were 0 at last measurement, the others I am unsure of. The other nem drifted into a powerhead and I removed the pieces and did a 20% WC. I have been feeding 1/2 cube of mysis every day. The clown is hosting it and it about 8 inches in front (and to the side a little) of a powerhead. I have seen the clown feed it in the past, but I have not been watching carefully since then to see if it continued.

Aww poor thing. I had one do that.

It could have been the energy it is taking to digest the crab, however much it ate, stressing it.
There are so many things that can make them look like they are dying. Its hard to tell if you cant pinpoint something in specific.
I had one spawn and it looked like it was dying and melting away and the next day was fine!

Keep us posted on how its doing.
Maybe someone else can offer up some ideas.
