Does anyone know of good books on Marine Fish Disease? I know there are some websites, but call me old fashioned....I like books, too. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Thanks

Hi Nikki,

There are several that I could recommend to you depending on how much that you are willing to spend and how detailed that you would like to get. Let me know your price range and then I will suggest something.

Thanks so much, Terry! I would say price range under $150. I am interested in as much detail as can be offered at that price range. Life cycles, descriptions of symptoms and/or photos, and if possible treatment methods. I don't really have much fish disease knowledge, so I would love to supplement where I can.

Hi Nikki,

I could recommend Dr. Stoskopf's book "Fish Disease", but that may cost you a little more. I think that you would benefit more by spending the money on two other books. The "Manual of Fish Health" by Andrews, Excell and Carrington would give you a great foundation to start with. Dr. Edward Noga's "Fish Disease Diagnosis and Treatment" is probably the best book available overall, but I would not recommend it until you have read something a bit more basic first such as the "Manual of Fish Health."
Someday I hope to write one myself about fish health management.

Cheers,

I have those books Terry mentioned, plus many more. You may also want to look at

Diseases in Marine Aquarium Fish, Gerald Bassleer, MS, Fish Pathology

Handbook of Fish Diseases by Dieter Untergasser (fresh water but still very helpful)

Diseases of Fishes
Book 5: Environmental Stress and Fish Diseases
by Wedemeyer, Myer and Smith

This book is just packed with valuable info you probably will not find anywhere else.

Same for this book;

Textbook of Fish Disease by E. Amalcher.

These two deal with FW but the info still applies to SW

If you want to deep-six yourself on fish and inverts, and no talk about meds;

Pathobiolgy of Marine and Estuarine Organisms by Couch and Fournie

Terry mentined Noga, that is not a cheap book $100 and Stoskopf is like $130 +, For diagnostics and treament Noga (370 p) is great but for over all info Stoskopf (900 p ) can't be beat and is why have both, they are qutie different in format.

Do you have any ISBN numbers for any of these books? I'm having trouble finding these two books:

Dr. Stoskopf's book "Fish Disease"
Dr. Edward Noga's "Fish Disease Diagnosis and Treatment"

I have most of the other ones that have been mentioned already and found the "Handbook of Fish Diseases" useful on more then one occasion but switch between all the books to get as much information as possible.

Just wanted to update on what books I ended up purchasing (although I used super saver shipping, so who knows how long it will take before I receive them): I ordered the "Manual of Fish Health" and "Fish Medicine". Oh, and Boomer, I also finally ordered "Aquatic Systems Engineering" :D. Thanks everyone for your recommendations.
