Ahh ok I didnt see the bulkhead to start with. Cool idea to spread the water out when going into the main. The only think that may be an issue is if you needed to clean that area. Something to keep in mind when using a needle wheel or beckett style skimmer, is that if you want more air but dont want to anymore water flow is to inject air via the venturi by using an air pump.

Mojo

what is this cleaning you speak of? don't we just build a new one? oi! Ive never run a venturi just an air line right up the intake until it almost touches the mesh, you think a venturi is worth looking into?

venturi as in a restricted passage with a negative pressure area? In a way/stretch I guess what I do is a venturi? not really a traditional one

Ok so lets call it a graple gromlet then?? lol thier should be a hole in the intake somewhere so that air can be suck in, that hole is what I was talking about?? you could force more air through it with an air pump to increase air input with out having to increase the water input (if more air is desired)

mojo

true enough, if pump is at maximum air intake and you try that it cavitates or stops running, typical venturi's are problematic ie. restriction of intake water to create low pressure zone... balance between air/water/flow, what would be awesome is a dilatable orifice

dilatable orifice

Ok lets keep this a family thead!! lol Ok so it cant take the max air already with the venturi turned all the way up?? well that kills that idea.

Mike, forgot to ask the most important ?? on the boss hogg what is the life span on it? (will I have to buy another one couple mths down the road??)

And how much maintenance is needed on it? (I'm sure if I use some kind of air filter before the pump air intake that would keep the dust out)

I just check around for pricing on the tubes :help: :help: the 12" is out of my pocket for now @ $95/ft at 6' lengths my cost so the 10" will be it with some 8" and 6" neck 8" cup and I should have some left over for a waste collector.

Wanna they should last for years, the ceramic wont degrade so all you would have to do is clean them every 4-6 months. That price is to high, let me know and I will get you some I paid 55 for the duel hog

Mike

well, as you've all gone air pump and I think I have the only working n/w recirc model (that is working like a champ!) I will stay with my style and here's the one for my new tank, 24'' tall 14'' wide 6 1/2'' thick.
out flow water is forced to pass the intake of n/w and should pick up any stray bubbles, incoming water is in a plenum at the top for full exposure, not quite finished yet and Ill post again when it gets running, Thanks Mojo for a really great thread and everyone else who's played along.

Is this the skimmer that you are going to run your Sas-Pool tank on? How many holes in your bottom plate? How many gph on the pump?

Thanks you got PM That $95 is for the 12" acrylic tube not the boss hogg.

yes it is Dr Pepperie! about 250 holes I guess? pump is rated at 950gph but who knows what that means after a mesh mod

This skimmer looks like it will hold more water than the DT!!!!!!! Are we talking HIGH HIGH Flow tank or what?

should hold about 8 gallons +- will only have a mj 600 or 1200 for input, the object is dwell time right? lol, hope to have it wet tomorrow

new water, only bleached and acid washed rock, nothing yet added for cycle.

I think you do this on purpose!!!
Cough up some more photos bud.
Most every one here has seen pictures of dirty foam and bubbles.

Dont know how to get your pics to work. I just figured out how to "Reply with a Quote" Remember I am computer challenged.

I am not sure why you are using PB. Just go to the members gallery and upload your pictures their?? then do a copy of the pictures properties, come to the thread and hit the little picture button, copy in the properties/location of the picture and it will work.
