My camera battery is dead so I will have to get a picture tomorrow, but I came across a very rare and interesting coral. When I saw it, the only thing it resembled at all was an australomussa, but it is branching upwards more than an inch in several spots. The shop owner said that yes indeed it is an australomussa straight from Australia, and that he hadn't seen one quite like it either. Anybody ever seen or heard of anything like this?

It is 4"+, and the middle area of it is mostly flat with large eyes/mouths like a typical australomussa, but the branching is very strange. I will be sure to put up pics tomorrow after work.

OK here it is.

hi ben..nice coral...
though it doesnt look like its australomussa....its more likely a PECTINIA "spiny cup" CORAL..
heres a link
Spiny Cup Pectinia Coral

hope this helps...i hope u didnt paid a lot (like australomussa price) on it...though it is a nice coral:)

Thanks that does look more like it, and no I didn't pay a bunch for it. It was the weird shape and size of the mouths that made me think that. Kinda has the same formation as the australomussa if you took away the branches.
