I just set up my first salt tank. 200 gallon. Fish only. I am running a Euroreef 8-2 skimmer. Coralife UV. Just filled it yesterday, is it normal to be cloudy for a bit? Thanks.

What did ya fill it with, just water, sand bed, live rock.... What all is in there....

How are you premixing your water and did you rinse your tank?

Dave,
If you mix your salt externally you will be able to check for salt disolving. Please remember to mix salt the same salinity externally and to same temperature as in the tank with powerhead in a container. Then when as close as possible to Tank temps and salinity add it. This is a common mistake with newbies. I lost a lot of animals until this was pointed out to me.

New tanks sometimes have things inside them that people can not see until water is inside them running. Maybe a filter sock or polyfilter will pull some of the goodies out.
Are you using filtered water from RO or RO/DI?

Congrats on the new setup! Your tank should clear up pretty soon. So many things to factor in which could cause it to be a bit cloudy as Ken and Ed made mention of. Best of luck with the new tank:)

This is the very first filling of the tank. Just brand new sand and salt water. From what I hear the cloudiness will go away in a little while. No fish yet, just getting the system going. I'm going to add live rock in a day or two. My goal is to get some rays. I have kept freshwater rays with success for a couple years now, so I thought I'd try salt. Thanks for the replies.
