One of our fellow reefers out of the country posted this on another forum and I thought it is important enough to share with everyone else. Please read and pass it on:

>HI FOLKS!!!

>I need your help and support here. Please hear me out.

>Recently i've been searching (I bet alot of you are too) for a book >call "Frogfishes of the World" by Theodore W. Pietsch and David B. >Grobecker; Stanford University Press, Stanford, California. But to my dismay >the book was long out of print. So i decided to write to Professor Theodore >W. Pietsch himself and ask if he can tell me where i can still get a copy of >his book. This was his reply:

>The book is long out of print and very rarely listed by used book stores.
>I wish Stanford would consider reprinting it, but last time I asked, they
>showed some initial interest but I never heard more from them. I only
>have one copy myself.

>Very sorry I can't help,

>Ted

>When i read his reply it saddens me that the only book in the world that's >dedicated wholly to Frogfishes can be found no more. Personally i think that >the book is a really important and substantial contribution to the world of >science and the education of millions of aquarist(you and me!) worldwide, >IT'S A SHAME THAT IT'S PUBLICATION HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED!!

>So i have decided to write a letter to Stanford University Press, along with >a list of names of people who's interested to read the book, to show that >the book is really in demand. In doing this i hope that we all can persuade >Stanford University Press to publish the book again. So folks, please help me >by sending me your name, the state and country you live in and your email >address. I hope you all understand what i'm trying to do. Thank you for your >time for reading. My email address is: [email protected]

>Yours Sincerely
>Vincent Yap

>(Really really need support from you kind folks here! Please pass the >message!)

If you are interested, or know people that would be, please help to get it back into print. This is the only book on Frogfish!

Thanks

That really bites. I have been on the hunt for a book by Sorokin, and have come up empty handed over and over again. I will gladly add my name to the list. I'm sure there is more than one reefer interested in frogfish that would benefit from the book.

BTW - Welcome to the board, if I missed ya :)

Angelscrx - I caught that as well, but couldn't remember where the name was familiar. That is weird. Hmmmm

Weird how the seller on your link is the same name on the letter looking for the very same book? Is it me or am I reading this wrong?

That is the book. The guy that I was talking to about it isn't looking to get the books, what he wants is enough interest in it that the publisher will start publishing the book again. The book is currently out of print.

In the beginning of the letter he says he is looking for the book but can't find it because it is out of print. If he is looking for it then why is he selling it? I am confused. Please clarify for me. Thanks

Wow, Sorry I really did'nt mean to start something. I did'nt even look at the seller name.

Don

this could be legitimate, that he has been searching for this book. as a possible book dealer he may have seen a demand for this book and would like to see it in print again.

or being that he has sold the book, he needs another one to sell.

I asked him this is what he said:

"Oh man!

No wonder somebody the other day email me wanting to buy the book from me!
I must have registered for the wrong thing. I tried registering on BookHq under their waiting list if someone wants to sell their copy. I'm going to try to delete that one off. Thanks for pointing out Akitadad."

I went back to the book selling page and he doesn't have it listed. Either way we look at it though getting it back in print will only benefit the hobby!

ahhh....there ya go...all is good in bookdom,,,except now no one has this book...i wonder if micro-publishing technowlogy is available for this and other OOP books?

Can't the author publish it online? Now that everything is straightened out (and I didn't mean to start anything) I see more and more books online that people can download for a fee. Lots of storage space on the web. Just a thought
