my millepora acro just got a couple of brown tips all others are blue tipped coral seems ok just 2 of the tips turned brown coral is about 4months old i have a 75 gal 2/250 hqi &2/96 pc water is all in range other acros seem ok any ideas?

Often only the actively growing tips are colored. Once they stop growing the color goes away (becomes the color of the rest of the branch). This is not always the case but can be. I have seen two other things cause Acropora to lose color at the tips. Light intensity which could be age of bulbs, distance from the coral, or clarity of the water. The other is photo period less than eight hours will some Acropora corals lose their color at the tips. It quickly returns when the photo period is lengthened.

acro browning

it seems that the brown on the tips of my acro are spreading down the coral first only 2 tips now 3 and it seems to be spreading any ideas why?

Is it just coloration or is it algae? If it is color then it's likely a response to lighting changes from when it had colored tips.

Kevin
