hey all

I came home today and saw that I have brownish algae growing on my live rock there is a little green in there too.

I am wondering if this algae is ok and if not what should I do about it.

any thoughts?

it has been running in my home for about 2 weeks but I got some water from a friend of mine ot help start things out so I don't know how old about 20 gals of the water is

If your tank is only running for 2 weeks then I would also go for diatoms. Dont worry they will go away on its own. Its just going through its cycle and maturing thats all.

sounds good to me just wanted to make sure. I still have a little green growing but I don't think that will be an issue

Well I am not sure why but when I came home today again the bloom is just massive now

here are a few pics

plesaae let me know what this stuff is

That has happened to me on every new tank I have ever had...salt and fresh. It will go away once the system has set it's own cycle up.

Definitely diatoms. Using water from another tank won't do anything at all. The beneficial bacteria grows in and on solid objects, such as live rock, sand, equipment, even the glass, but not in the water column.

Diatoms are a part of every new tank. It'll pass. Just keep your water parameters as high quality as you can, and they'll end sooner, rather than later.
