Anyone have any luck with Sea Lettuce nudis eating bryopsis algae????? I have seen some posts on line on google that they do ,but don't want to buy one if they don't.

to answer your question, nudis do work, but once the bryopsis is gone, they die as the algae is their food source...I believe once the nudis die, they emit a toxin in the water...

so I would research, research before adding it to your tank....however, i have successfully used Kent Tech M to eradicate bryopsis...increase Mg level to 1700 and hold at this level for at least 3-6 weeks...if you have to do a water change in between, then dose back to 1700 level and hold til duration is completed.

this is a tough algae to rid the tank of and will take persistence and patience on your part....there is no panacea for it..

I was going to buy one today but I was told they don't eat bryopsis, well they said they never heard of it and I could try one......But I have found post that says they do. I'm just not wanting to buy something that will not do the job and die. If it eats the stuff then I will try to catch it and pass it to another reefer with there algae problem.

Why risk the life of a little critter? Using the Tech-M is so much easier and pretty much risk free :)

I was told that to use the tech-m you need to pull your inverts out of the tank so you don't kill them. And I have some peppermints and a blodd red shrimp that I know I can't catch.

3yrs and I've never heard of anyone removing inverts during a Tech-M treatment.

I just found an old thread on here and no one lost any inverts.....So I think I will get some tech-m and a test kit today. Is there anything I need to watch during treatment like Ph ,alk ,or any thing going crazy due to the mag levels?

I have used Tech M a couple of times and I do like the ease of just adding a chemical to take care of a problem, it is kind of pricey.
I used about 3 gallons on my 240.
Here is a link to figure out how much you may need.

No. Just raise it slowly. You can use the above chart. Measure your present Mag and then add your desired level which is around 16-1800ppm
Keep a close watch on the Bryopsis. You'll see it turning white :)
Good luck and keep us posted!

IME, I raised it more than the recommended but then I didnt have SPS in my tank...

Disclaimer: I do NOT recommend raising Mg quickly for those that do have SPS as it can bleach the SPS corals.

I never had an issue with inverts when dosing and my level was 1750-1800.

Well the tech m was alittle to expenxive for me with a test kit too. I got a sea lettuce nudi to try. I put it right on the algae and it started eatting it. It was on the same rock the rest of the day and the next. then today I don't see it. It really didnt clean the rock either. I think I may have to get the tech m. But it will have to wait a few weeks till I can aford a test kit and the product.

want my honest advise?

learn to live with The killer b... ive had it for years and years and years... ive tried eveything.. I dumped hundreds of dollars of mag in there... it doesnt kill it full... it will return when the conditions are right for it, Unless ive got the magic bryopsis Idk what to say..

If you learn to control it with power water changes... and use it as a "measuring" device Its not that bad...
granted a few years back i wanted to nuke my tank... but the bryopiss was indicating visually that my water was outta wack.

plan and simple..... I really dont believe anyone who says that they got rid of it... cause you never see pictures of the tank years later, It'll go away for 5 months then youll find a little patch of it..

Don't disturb it...
grow it in your sump like cheto..

Its really a long story... ive got post from a few years ago.. best thing i can say if your hell bent out removing it is.. remove the rock that it is on.. Or drain the water below it and use paper towls to remove it.. that will soak the water that comes off of it when you pull on it.. that release's the spores that make it spread..

check back for some of my older posts... I think one was called "the killer b"

Good luck

I remove it by hand once in awhile when it appears in my tank. Its comes and goes in small dime sized patches still dont know why luckily for me its easy to control. My advice for the Kent M is to raise it to 1650 over the course of a week. Hold it for two weeks or more if necessary then do a water change and let the rest balance on its own. Be careful when raising your mag that high and constantly monitor your corals for anything close to fatal signs. Some people have burned and killed corals treating their tanks for bryopsis, some people have been completely successful as I was with my 70g cube. Let me know if you need a mag kit. I have a barley used elos kit that I would trade for a few polyps or you're more than welcome to have it for free if you dont have any zoas I havent got from you to frag. Just shoot me a call if needed. Good luck.
