If you dont get much help here, you might want to ask in the Reef Corals with Anthony Calfo section...

Bubbles do best under medium light and should be supplimented with feeding. Dwayne I would say under MH is ok just lower in the water column.

Thanks both of you! Practical experience is what I like to hear about. Anyone else have thoughts on lighting and feeding?

Thanks,
Dwaine

Dwayne 99.99% of the time you can use the flesh rule for both feeding and light. The more flesh a coral has the more supplimental feeding it needs, also the more adapted that coral is at capture and feeding.

example: mushroom coral = all tissue = food capture = food required =less light dependance on photosynthisis

SPS=very thin veneer of tissue = lousey at food capture= very little food required = more depandant on photosysthesis.

With my bubble coral that I had for a year until It outgrew my tank I had it on the bottom of a 55g under 2x250w Metal halides... It grew and thrived for a long time.. I rarely supplemented... It was a sad day when It took up nearly 2' of my tank on the bottom and forced me to get rid of it.. I loved that thing..

Mine is about 4-6" in size; how many times a week should it be fed? I'll assume things like raw shimp and squid are what it likes and fish if it catches one!

I fed mine only when I was showing off to people.. Which was maybe once a month if that..

James

Yea thats sounds about right, maybe twice a month or smaller ammounts more frequently. Dont laught about catching a fish. I have a pic somewhere here of one eating a medium size one lol

I put a picture in the gallery but can't figure out how to embed it in a post as a thumbnail like I see so many doing, what's the trick?

When you are about to post a post. If you look below the submit button you will see another button called manage attachments. Click on it and it will bring up another window, from that window you can upload up to five pics (if thier the right size) . should be self expainitory at that point.

Sounds like you should have gotten a bigger tank or one just for the monster coral!
